The year in review, 2023 saw some very big hits in the Ghanaian music industry as well as some huge flops. All in all, the hard work of some of our artists saw the industry see some great reviews both locally and internationally. This was seen in the recognition of some of our homegrown artists on international stages. The likes of Black Sheriff, King Promise, Fameye and Amerado, just to mention a few, kept dropping back to back hits, which couldn’t be held down and went global.
In the same year we saw the release of the track “Monica” by Kuami Eugene. The song which had the usual Rockstar trademark of the Angela hitmaker gained so much traction with days of its release that it would be compared to a wildfire in the dry season. The song started its own dance routine and all, with both the young and old jumping on the bandwagon. Its safe to say the timing of the songs release also helped it to stay with the best racks at the top throughout the festive season right into the new year.
The song still enjoys a lot of airplay with the recent release of the official video release also keeping it fresh. 6ix6ix went on to release a remix of the song with Kuami Eugene, to solidify the songs general appeal and hit status.
Amerado also release the controversy surrounded track titled Kwaku Ananse, with Kwame Yogot calling him out for sampling his music always to create hit songs. The song hit like lightening and felt so at home and relating for listeners and even critics. The song despite all its controversy, still went on to make a lot of waves.
By popular request he released a remix with his street brother Fameye, and it served to enhance both artist credibility and fame as well as the songs popularity.
There were other big hits of the year, notable mentions include Oh No by Black Sheriff, Into The Future by Stonebwoy, amongst others.
