Mr Drew – The “Sele” Man and “Dw3” Hitmaker

Mr. Drew, whose real name is Andrews Commey Otoo, is a Ghanaian musician known for his contributions to the Ghanaian music scene, particularly in the Afrobeat and Highlife genres. Born on June 10, 1996, in Greater Accra Region, Ghana, Mr. Drew began his music career in the early 2010s but gained widespread recognition in the mid-2010s. Mr. Drew initially gained attention through his participation in the MTN Hitmaker reality music competition in Ghana. While he didn’t win the competition, his talent was evident, and it served as a launching pad for his music career.

In 2019, Mr. Drew signed with Highly Spiritual Music, a record label owned by Ghanaian music producer Kaywa. Under the label, he released his debut single titled “Gimme Love,” which garnered significant airplay and attention in Ghana. The song’s success helped solidify Mr. Drew’s presence in the Ghanaian music industry and marked the beginning of his rise to prominence.

In 2020, Mr. Drew gained even more recognition with the release of his hit single “Dw3” featuring fellow Ghanaian artists Sarkodie and Krymi. The song became a massive hit across Ghana and beyond, topping music charts and earning Mr. Drew widespread acclaim. Its catchy melody and infectious rhythm further established Mr. Drew as a rising star in the Ghanaian music scene.

Despite the success of “Dw3,” Mr. Drew faced some controversies surrounding the song’s sampling of a Nigerian song without proper authorization. This led to legal issues and public scrutiny but did not diminish his popularity significantly. His feature on the track with Sefa on “E Choke” was also another banger.

Following the success of “Dw3,” Mr. Drew continued to release several other singles, including “Later” featuring Kelvyn Boy, “Let Me Know,” and “Mood.” He has collaborated with various artists within and outside Ghana, further expanding his musical reach.

Mr. Drew is known for his smooth vocals, catchy melodies, and ability to blend different musical styles, including Afrobeat, Highlife, and Afropop. He continues to be a prominent figure in the Ghanaian music industry, consistently releasing new music and entertaining audiences with his performances.

Mr. Drew remains active in the music scene and continues to make significant contributions to Ghanaian music. He recently featured on a track with Mophty titled “Piti“.
