She represents a new generation of South African musicians who are blending genres and pushing boundaries, contributing to the vibrant and diverse landscape of African music.

Tyla has gone on to win international acclaim by beating top favorites like Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Wizkid, to mention but a few to win her first Grammy Award, for the Best African Performance” for 2024, with her widely celebrated track, “Water”. The win has gone on to break many Nigerian hearts, and sparked a renewed rivalry between Nigerians and South Africans. But if we are being honest her song gained too much traction and airplay right from day one, and is too difficult not to love. It would have been almost criminal if she had not won the award.
